Xi Jinping has arrived in North Korea, for the first visit by a Chinese president in 14 years.
He'll hold talks with his counterpart Kim Jong Un on denuclearisation and economic issues.
Xi is meeting with US President Donald Trump at the G20 summit in Japan next week after talks on the trade war between the two states broke down.
If Xi can make a breakthrough on nuclear issues with Kim, that might just help China's trade issues with the US.
Al Jazeera's Adrian Brown reports from Beijing.
