India's Prime Minister's Office said on Saturday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is monitoring the situation in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, after the death of more than 60 children within the last five days.
The Prime Minister's Office Twitter Handle said, "The Prime Minister is monitoring the situation in Gorakhpur. He is in touch with the officials of the Center and Uttar Pradesh governments. "According to another tweet," Union Minister of State for Health, Anupriya Patel and Health Secretary will take stock of the situation in Gorakhpur."
On this incident, the Central Government has sought detailed report on death of more than 60 children from Uttar Pradesh government on Saturday. An official of the Union Health Ministry told on condition of anonymity that state Minister Anupriya Patel and Health Secretary CK Mishra have been asked to go to Gorakhpur and find the flaws in Baba Raghav Das Medical College where the children were admitted.
Meanwhile, in Uttar Pradesh, the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's government has suspended the head of the BRD Medical College Hospital in charge of negligence.
Health Secretary Mishra has reached Gorakhpur, while Anupriya is about to arrive there soon. The official said that the Union Health Ministry has planned to send a delegation of doctors of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Safdarjung Hospital and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital from Delhi for the help of doctors of the BRD.
It is worth mentioning that in the last five days in the hospital, 63 children died due to the closure of encephalitis and oxygen supply. Of these, 30 were killed within 48 hours.
BRD Medical College was being given a large amount in the form of a grant to cope with encephalitis by the Uttar Pradesh government.
Although family members admitted in hospital have alleged that despite getting government funding in large quantities, there are no doctors here nor there is no proper treatment system, proper medicines or supply of oxygen.
Earlier on Saturday, the Chief Minister Yogi sent his government's Health Minister Siddhartha Nath Singh and Medical Education Minister Ashutosh Tandon to Gorakhpur with the direction that 'anyone responsible for the tragedy should not be left out'.
Yogi's office, who is facing severe criticism of the opposition in this case, tweeted the health minister on Saturday afternoon that the Principal of the Medical Science Institute has been suspended with immediate effect.
