Queen Elizabeth II, Britain's longest-reigning monarch, has died at the age of 96.

Queen Elizabeth II ruled Britain for 70 years.

On Thursday, 8 September 2022, his family gathered at his estate in Scotland after concerns grew over his health.

Elizabeth became Queen of Britain in 1952, and her reign saw vast social changes.

Following her death, her eldest son and former Prince of Wales, Charles, will be the new monarch and will lead mourning across the country and 14 regions of the Commonwealth following the Queen's death.

In a statement, Buckingham Palace said: "The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon."

"The King and Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and return to London tomorrow."

After the doctors kept the Queen under observation, all the children of the Queen reached Balmoral near Aberdeen.

Her grandson Prince William is also there and her younger brother Prince Harry is on the way.

The Queen was born on April 21, 1926 in Mayfair, London. Her birth name was Elizabeth Alexandra Marie Windsor.
