Ayatollah Khamanei, Iran's supreme religious leader, on Wednesday expressed concern about Muslims in India's Kashmir. The response from Iran comes two weeks after Jammu and Kashmir's autonomy was terminated.

In the past too, Khamenei has been more vocal about Kashmir than the government of Iran. But perhaps this is the first time that Khamnai has expressed concern by tweeting only on Kashmir.

Khamnai has tweeted, "We are worried about the condition of Muslims in Kashmir." We have good relations with India, but we expect the Government of India to formulate policies in favor of Kashmiris and stop the oppression of Muslims in this area. ''

Khamnai also blamed Britain for the Kashmir problem. He said that when India was liberated from the British colony in 1947, it intentionally left a wound.

On 5 August, when India announced the end of constitutional autonomy of Jammu and Kashmir in Parliament, Pakistan had broken all ties with India in response.

This statement by the Iranian leader has been prominently highlighted by English News Service Press TV. Iran has said that Kashmir can solve the Kashmir problem only through dialogue.

Earlier, the Iran government had issued two statements on Kashmir and said that India and Pakistan should find a diplomatic solution to Kashmir. Iran's Foreign Ministry had said that India and Pakistan are its friends and partners and that both countries should try for a diplomatic solution peacefully.

Earlier on 11 August, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan spoke to Iran's President Hassan Rouhani over the phone. In 2017 too, Khamenei appealed to the Muslim world for the support of Kashmiris on Eid-ul-Fitr. Khamnai has also visited Kashmir in the 1980s.

Pakistan is raising the issue of Kashmir with different forums and different countries of the world. Pakistan has been trying to get Muslim countries to support it openly on Kashmir issue.

Pakistan also took up the matter with the Organization of Islamic Co-operation (OIC), an organization of Muslim countries, which has 57 Muslim majority countries around the world. The OIC condemned the violation of human rights in Jammu and Kashmir and said that negotiations should be initiated to resolve it.

Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi went to China with India's complaint. China also said that both countries should solve the Kashmir problem together and India should maintain the status quo. China has been asserting its claim on Ladakh, so it has objected to making Ladakh a union territory.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has once again offered to mediate between India and Pakistan, describing the situation in Kashmir as 'explosive' and complicated.

Donald Trump has said that at the end of this week he will also meet Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi in France.

Trump says Kashmir is a complex problem. Trump said he is in touch with leaders of India and Pakistan.
