Thailand is hosting the latest summit of Southeast Asian countries - known as ASEAN.
Foreign ministers of the 10 nations that make up the bloc are in Bangkok before leaders arrive on Sunday.
The nations may not be separated by great distances, but they have diverse cultures and different political systems, and some are warning that democracy in the region is under threat.
