The Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader of Kerala has given a controversial statement on the Indian army. CPM's Kerala unit secretary Kodiyari Balakrishnan said that the army can abduct any woman and rape her.
Opposition parties have expressed strong displeasure over CPM leader's statement. The CPM leader gave a controversial statement in a public meeting in Kerala.
The CPM leader said, "If the army comes to Kannur, then people will be struggling with army."
The CPM leader said, "They (the army) can do anything. If they see four people standing together, they can shoot them too."
The CPM leader said, "They can also lift (any) the woman and rape her. Nobody has the right to question them. This is the state wherever the army is."
Kerala's Kannur has been a victim of political violence for some time. Many workers of RSS, BJP and CPM have died in Kannur district. The CPM-led Left Democratic Front's government is in Kerala. RSS and BJP have been blaming the CPM government for violence. While CPM has denied it.
In the past, the Governor of Kerala, Justice (retired) P. Sadasivam, directed the Chief Minister of Kerala, P. Vijayan, to control felony, violence and murder and incidents in the politically turbulent Kannur district. A three-member BJP delegation in Raj Bhavan had demanded action against the murder of RSS functionary Biju, who was in Kannur by handing over the memorandum. The Governor sent the memorandum to the Chief Minister and asked him to take immediate action to stop such incidents.
