Vinod Rai, the chairman of the committee of administrators of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), has made it clear that Anil Kumble will continue as coach of Team India for the West Indies tour.
Earlier it was said that Kumble's tenure would end after the Champions Trophy. Team India's tour of West Indies starts on 23rd June, where India has to play five ODIs and one T20 matches.
Just a few days back, the BCCI had also said that it would take more time to find the new coach of Team India and hence, Kumble will remain the main coach of Team India for the time being.
According to the BCCI, last week a meeting of BCCI's Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), which was attended by Saurav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and V V S Laxman, was held in London to look for a new coach.
According to the BCCI, in this meeting, Ganguly, Tendulkar and Laxman discussed on the appointment of new coach two hours, but after this they told BCCI Chief Executive Officer Rahul Johri that they needed more time to select the coach.
Those who have applied for Team India's coach post include Virender Sehwag, Tom Moody, Lalchand Rajput, Doda Ganesh, Richard Pebus and current coach Anil Kumble.
Team India will play on the Caribbean tour on June 23 and then on June 25 in Trinidad's Queens Park Oval. After this, India will have to play at Sir Vivian Richard Stadium in Antigua on June 30 and July 2 and then the final one-day at Jamaica's Sabina Park on July 6. The only T20 match between West Indies and India will be played in Jamaica's Sabina Park on July 9.
