There are protests in the country in protest against the assassination of senior journalist Gauri Lankesh in India.
On Tuesday (September 5th) unknown assailants shot 55-year-old Lankesh in front of her house in Bangalore.
According to the police, she died on the spot.
Gauri was the editor of a Kannada weekly magazine. She used to write continuously against the right wing organizations and the Narendra Modi government.
Social worker is considered the right-wing groups for the responsible of the murder of Gauri Lankesh. In Karnataka, in the year 2015, similarly the literary MM Kalaburgi was murdered. So far both the suspects of Kaluburgi murder are out of the arrest.
After the killing of Gauri Lankesh, protest marches and tribute meetings are being organized in many cities of India. On Wednesday (September 6th) at 10.30 am the protest march was lifted against the murder in Bengaluru.
A meeting was held in front of Gandhi statue at Town Hall and at 5 pm in front of DC office in Mangalore on Wednesday evening. A protest was held in front of the clock tower at 5.00 pm in Udupi at Wednesday.
In Dharwad of Karnataka, protest was held at Kalyan Nagar area of Kaluburgi at 10am on Wednesday morning. A meeting was held at 11 am in Hubli in which the assassination of Gauri Lankesh was opposed.
A mourning gathering was held in the Press Club of India on Raisina Road, New Delhi at 12.30 pm and at 3 am to protest the killing of Gauri Lankesh. A mourning meeting was held at 11pm at the press club of Chennai. Journalists from the Kerala Journalist Association protested on Jantar Mantar at 4 pm.
On Thursday (September 7th) there will be protests at Jantar Mantar at 4 pm.
On Wednesday at 5 pm and 6 pm in Mumbai, protest was held at Amphitheater located in Carter Road, Bandra. A mourning meeting was held at the SP College, Sadashiv Peeth, Pune at four in the evening.
On Wednesday, at 4 pm at Sundaraiya Science Center in Hyderabad, humanitarian law Trivandrum in Trivandrum of Kerala was protested at 6.00 and in the evening at 6.00 in the High Court. The protest meeting was held at the Chandigarh Press Club at 12 noon on Wednesday.
In Lucknow, at 5 pm on Wednesday, a protest meeting was held near Gandhi statue of Hazrat Ganj and on Thursday (September 7th) the opposition will hold a protest meeting at 5.30 pm on Thursday. A protest meeting was held at Pant Park, Gorakhpur at 4 pm on Wednesday evening.
