After joining Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi's dinner, Bahujan Samajwadi Party Supremo Mayawati and Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav can rally together for the first time in Uttar Pradesh.

According to the TOI report, the idea of this joint rally came during the lunch function on Friday when RJD Supremo Lalu Prasad requested Akhilesh and Mayawati to come together.

Naresh Agarwal, MP of the SP, affirming that the proposal to do joint rallies had come to light and all anti-BJP parties supported it. He told TOI that the demand of the time is that the entire Opposition jointly stood against BJP. He said that after the Presidential election Laloo Prasad Yadav would organize a huge rally on 27th August in Patna.

However, senior BSP leaders did not get in touch with this. But sources present in the meeting said that Mayawati has also supported it. The source said, quoting Mayawati, I am 100 percent with you.

Mayawati and Akhilesh's joint rally can give a form to the anti-BJP front before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

In the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections announced in March 2017, Mayawati and Akhilesh faced a major defeat from BJP, after which the speculations were expected to come together with them.

Lalu and TMC president Mamta Banerjee also asked Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav to come together during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

On Friday, Lalu insisted on unity in the context of Uttar Pradesh. He said that if SP, BSP and Congress come together, they can win 70 seats in the Lok Sabha.

Let me tell that after 1993, BSP and SP have not come together. Earlier they had contested assembly elections in which they had won. But the bitterness between both increased in 1995 when the goons attacked on Mayawati, who was staying at a guest house in Lucknow. At that time the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh was Mulayam Singh Yadav.
