A journalist's moral duty to cover the development work of the government: National Investigation Agency

Kamram Yusuf was arrested for his involvement in stone-throwing incidents in India's Jammu and Kashmir. Kamran Yusuf claims that he is a journalist by profession, while the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in its charge sheet told Thursday (February 15) that evidence found against him reveals that he is not a professional journalist and that the evidence have met, they narrate the support of anti-national activities.

NIA has listed the development work done by the government, the opening of the hospital or school or the leader of a ruling party, as evidence, and has said that these things show that Kamran Yusuf is not a real journalist. On January 18, the NIA had filed a charge sheet against terror funding and stone-throwing incidents in Kashmir. Chargesheet contains names of 12 people, including Kamran Yusuf.

Kamran Yusuf claims to be an independent journalist, was arrested on September 5 for allegedly being involved in stone-throwing incidents. On Thursday (February 15th) before the Additional Sessions Judge Tarun Sherawat, the NIA presented evidence during the hearing for Kamran Yusuf's bail. The next hearing in this case is to be held on February 19.

In the charge sheet, the NIA has listed 'the moral duty of a journalist' and Kamram Yusuf is suspected of being a journalist. It has been said by NI that if he is a journalist or stringer by profession, then he would have played at least one moral duty, such as the activities and incidents in his jurisdiction (good and bad) cover up. He never covered the inaugaration of the development works, the hospital, the school building, the road, the bridge by the government or any agency, the statement of a ruling party or any other social or developmental activity carried out by the India government or the state government.

Social works such as blood donation camp, free medical check up, skill development program and iftar party organizing in the Kashmir valley by the army and paramilitary forces have been mentioned in the charge sheet. Chargesheet states that Kamran Yusuf has hardly taken any video or photographs of such activities. Photographs from his mobile and laptop state that his intention was to cover antinational activities and earn money from those photographs. According to the NIA, Yusuf was not a professional because he has not Journalism training from any institute. At the same time, Yousuf's lawyer, Varisha Farasat, in the court said that he meets the criteria for being a journalist.
