Elections in three states of Northeast, especially Tripura, in India have restrained all opposition parties. So, all the opposition parties have renewed political reviews. Meanwhile, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi has invited leaders of opposition parties on a dinner for discussions on the possibility of a major coalition under Mission 2019. After the results of the recent sub-elections i.e. on Sonia Gandhi's dinner on 13 March, these leaders can discuss future strategies and the possibility of coalition. The biggest thing is that leaders of Telugu Desam Party (TDP), who are involved in the NDA can also join this banquet.
Sources said that in the backdrop of joining hands by opposition parties to attack the government in Parliament, this initiative is a step towards strengthening the opposition and laying the foundation for the joint front for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. Sonia Gandhi has taken this initiative at a time when discussions about the prospects of non-BJP, non-Congress Front are being discussed. Earlier, TRS Chief and Chief Minister of Telangana Chandrasekhar Rao had proposed to discuss this issue at the national level.
The sources close to Congress have confirmed that Sonia Gandhi's dinner will be underlined with all those opposition parties who will fight with the BJP inside and outside parliament. He said, "It will not be a mere dinner, but it will also demonstrate the power of the opposition parties, which may like to form a morcha united against BJP's misrule."
The Congress's knowledgeable sources refused to give more details, saying that many leaders have confirmed the involvement in it. It is believed that this feast will include TRS, TDP, besides the leaders of Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Trinamool Congress, Left Parties, DMK, National Janata Dal and other party leaders.
However, he said that Sonia Gandhi is interested in the fact that all the top opposition leaders should come in, including Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee. Mamta has not yet confirmed whether she will join or not. Mamta had spoken to Chandrasekhar Rao and DMK executive president MK Stalin for coordination outside and inside Parliament.
A big leader of the opposition said on condition of anonymity that the constituent party of the NDA could also join the Congress leader's dinner.
TDP is the ally of the NDA, but in the case of triple Talaq, he had opposed the stand of the Center with the Opposition parties in the Parliament. TDP has also disagreed with the Modi government on the issue of giving special package to Andhra Pradesh. Meanwhile, Congress President Rahul Gandhi has said that special package will be given to Andhra Pradesh if the Congress's government forms at the center.
