During the voting in the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency, there was violence today and at least seven people lost their lives in the firing by security forces, whereas there was news of firing from two places in Madhya Pradesh's Atre assembly election.
However by-elections in Karnataka, and two assembly constituencies of Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, Rajasthan and Delhi were concluded peacefully.
The by-elections were held today in eight assembly seats of five states and Srinagar Lok Sabha seat. There are reports of stone pelting in more than two dozen places in Srinagar, Badgam and Ganderbal districts, these three districts come to Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency. The main rival of this seat is National Conference and Congress candidate Farooq Abdullah and the ruling PDP candidate Nazir Ahmad Khan.
The army was called to help the security forces in controlling the crowd. The crowd was pelting stones. He threw petrol bombs in Ganderbal and set fire to the polling booth.
According to officials, more than 100 security personnel were injured in the violence. Many civilians were also injured in the police firing.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Election Officer Shantmanu said that in this parliamentary constituency, only 6.5 percent voting was held. He told reporters, "I can not say anything about the re-election right now. This figure could be around 50 or 100 or more in the polling booth.''
Two-two people died in Birvah and Chadura of Badgam and Pakherpora of Charare Sharif in Jammu and Kashmir. In Maigam in Badgam district, one person died in the violence.
Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his father Farooq Abdullah have criticized the Mehbooba Mufti-led government to fail completely in the elections.
There are reports of firing incidents in two places of Madhya Pradesh. There was a clash between the Congress and the BJP workers in the bye-election of Atre assembly seat.
However, the Madhya Pradesh Election Commission denied reports of the capture of the booth and said that the security was tightened after these incidents.
