51 people were killed and 11 others injured in landslides due to heavy rains in Bangladesh.

A top official of the Department of Disaster Management gave this information on Tuesday.

According to the news agency EFE, Director General of Disaster Management Department (DMD) Riaz Ahmed said that 29 people from Rangamati district, 16 from Chittagong and 6 people from Bandarbad have been reported to death.

Before this, Additional Police Chief of Rangamati Mohammed Shahidullah said that due to heavy rains, the rescue work is getting obstructed.

He said, "The weather here is very bad and it is a mountainous region, so there are many problems in the rescue operation."

Dijen Roy, spokesman, Weather department's Chittagong Office, said that they recorded 131 millimeters of rain in the last 24 hours. He also said that there is a possibility of continuous rain due to continuous low pressure in the Bay of Bengal.

The centre, which estimates the floods in Dhaka, said that water level has increased in all major rivers, while some rivers are already flowing above the danger mark.

People of Assam are also struggling with this problem. In the last week, about 13,000 people have been affected by floods due to frequent rain in Assam. Apart from this, post-flood landslides prevented rail connectivity.

According to officials of the Assam Disaster Management Authority, about 13,000 people have been affected by floods in 28 villages of Lakhimpur, Jorhat and Biswanath districts in the last 24 hours.

The railway connection to the Barak Valley has been broken by landslides in the hill area of Dima Hasao district. The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) had to cancel the passenger train service from Lumding to Silchar on Saturday due to landslides. The level of water in the Brahmaputra river has increased and it is flowing above the level of danger in Nimati Ghat, so that the authorities have banned the boats services from Jorhat to Majuli.

Due to the increase in water levels in the Brahmaputra river, the boats services have also canceled in some other areas. Assam Government has directed the officials of flood prone districts before arranging relief and rescue material in emergency situation.
