All the accused in the 2G scam of Rs 1.76 lakh crore have been acquitted in India. Special CBI court of Judge OP Saini gave its verdict on Thursday on the scam involving the spectrum allocation during the Manmohan Singh government.
In this, former telecom minister A Raja and DMK MP Kanimozhi were made accused in the case. Raja and Kanimozhi reached court in the morning. Enforcement Directorate (ED) along with the CBI had also filed the case against the accused. On the charge sheet of the CBI, the special court had fixed charges against 17 accused in the case in 2011.
CBI and ED have filed several charges against the accused. The special court had fixed charges against the other accused in the case other than Raja and Kanimozhi under the Prevention of Money Laundering Prevention Act (PMLA) with various sections of the IPC. They were accused of criminal conspiracy, cheating, making fake documents, misuse of the post, and taking bribe.
The CBI filed the chargesheet in April 2000 in the 2G scam case. The investigating agency had alleged that there was a loss of Rs 30,984 crore due to disturbances in issuing 122 licenses for spectrum. The Supreme Court canceled the license on February 2, 2012.
