29 Palestinians killed in Israeli airstrike on displaced persons camp in Gaza
Wednesday, July 10, 2024
At least 29 people were reported killed in an Israeli attack on a displaced persons camp outside a school in southern Gaza.
The Hamas-run Health Ministry said the airstrike hit the gate of the al-Awda school in the town of Abasana al-Kabira, east of Khan Younis.
The Israeli military said it used "precision weapons" to target "terrorists from Hamas' military wing".
The Israeli military claimed the suspects took part in the attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. But the Israeli military has not presented any evidence to confirm its claim.
The Israeli military has said that reports of civilian casualties in the displaced persons camp near the al-Awda school are being investigated.
A week ago, the Israeli army ordered the evacuation of areas east of Abasan al-Kabira and Khan Younis, causing thousands of people to leave.
The BBC spoke to eyewitnesses who said that more than 3,000 displaced people were present in the area at the time. They also told about the horror of the attack.
The attack has caused widespread devastation and the dead include Palestinian women and children.
Israel was attacked on 7 October 2023 in which 1200 people were killed and 251 people were taken hostage to Gaza.
According to the Hamas-run Health Ministry, 38,240 Palestinians have died so far in the Israeli military attack that began after this.
