The United Nations has called for an immediate end to the deadly conflict in the Libyan capital Tripoli.

On Saturday, August 27, 2022, a violent clash broke out between two political factions in Tripoli. At least 23 people were killed and dozens more were injured in the clashes, according to the Libyan health ministry.

Young comedian Mustafa Baraka was also among those killed, an official said.

Libya has been in chaos since the NATO-backed uprising in 2011.

The rebellion ousted the long-time ruler of Libya, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi, from power. From then until 2019, the unrest in Libya continued.

Although the last two years have been peaceful as compared to earlier, but the incident of Saturday, August 27, 2022 has once again created an atmosphere of violence and anarchy in Libya.

There have been explosions in several areas of the Libyan capital Tripoli. Emergency services have said several hospitals have been affected. People have also been evacuated from the areas around the battle.

The Libyan mission of the United Nations said the fighting resulted in "indiscriminate and heavy shelling in residential areas", following which an immediate ceasefire has been called.

The clashes began on Saturday, August 27, 2022, when the armed forces of Libya's pro-UN government tried to stop a convoy of militia loyal to their rival Fati Bashagha.
