Congress today demanded a probe by SIT from the Gujarat government the death of 11 newborns in 36 hours in a state hospital and said that he apologized to the people.
On the death of 11 newborns in 36 hours from the midnight of Friday in the state hospital, the Gujarat government ordered the cause of death and investigation of the circumstances.
The government had constituted a committee to investigate the matter. The committee gave a clean chit to the hospital in its report on Monday and said that the death of newborn children was due to premature birth and due to less weight during birth.
It has been said in the report that patients were given proper, intensive and timely treatment.
Senior Congress leader Shakti Singh Gohil demands that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) should investigate the matter under the leadership of a high court judge on gets a clean chit from the government committee to the state hospital.
He told reporters that in order to keep an eye on newborn babies 24 hours cameras are necessary in their ward. But he went to that ward on Monday and there was no camera in the place.
He said, "We demand that instead of giving a clean chit to ourselves, the government should accept its mistakes and apologize to the people."
Let me tell you that shortly before, Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital, MM Prabhakar told that the children who were sent to the private hospital, most of the doctors there went home on the leave of Diwali. The infants who died, their weight was very low. The weight of many children was less than one kilogram. I can say with confidence that the death of these babies was not due to the lack of oxygen.
On the other hand, health commissioner Dr Jayanti Ravi had said while confirming the death of infants, we have taken cognizance in the matter. According to the preliminary information, some infants were admitted to the private hospital after losing their health. Some babies died due to septicemia, while a child's blood clot stopped. This is a big case for the death of infants. In this case, we will keep an eye on the full report.
